Happy Pets: Shy Mini-Pets require coaxing from friends

Happy Pets is all about giving out free pets lately, but we're not about to complain. Today's freebie requires a little bit of work on your part, but you'll feel great knowing you're rescuing this sad little mystery pet. If you log in, you'll see a pair of eyes peering through a wicker basket amongst your pets and decorations. If you click on this basket, you'll be prompted to post a wall post asking for seven friends to "give you their blessing". Once you'll fulfilled that requirement, you'll be given one random minipet.

The available pets include a mini hamster, a guinea pig, a pig, a ferret, and a bunny rabbit. For an additional surprise, there is also a Mini Psychedelic Chicken hiding along with the other animals. You have no way of knowing what pet you're going to get, but that's part of the fun! If you don't want to wait, you can pay a hefty 298 Facebook Credits to instantly unlock the basket. That's pretty silly though, because it doesn't take long to get 7 clicks from your friends.

FarmVille Funhouse is coming soon and it kinda creeps us out

This week's official FarmVille podcast, we learned that a new buildable funhouse will be en route to our farms in the not-too-distant future.

This building will be available for Farm Cash or it can be constructed with building components received from your friends and neighbors. As one of the designers said to me when giving me details about this new feature "it's pretty sweet decoration", so make sure to keep on the lookout for both of these releases in the coming weeks.

A 'decoration,' huh? I was hoping after you build this thing, you'd be able to harvest it for balloons or some other 'fun' item.

Also, maybe it's just me, but don't bad things tend to happen in funhouses? I can think about five movies off the top of my head that have a terrifying scene in a hall of mirrors or something of that ilk. I guess long as there aren't any creepy clowns loitering around outside (see image above), I'll try to overlook my funhouse phobia just this once.

The next Facebook MMO will take social gamers to 'A Mystical Land'

And like brave adventurers to yet another randomly placed, dark and dank dungeon, here come the MMOs. Oregon-based developer Mad Otter Games and Berlin games publishers Neonga announced today the fruit of their recent partnership is a 3D Facebook MMO. Titled "A Mystical Land", the game is a traditional fantasy-MMO through and through, but with a social twist. For instance, it will include several common class archetypes like Wizards, Warriors and Healers while infusing social and sharing mechanics throughout. And what would a traditional fantasy MMO be without monsters to slay, quests to complete and loot to collect? Well, Mad Otter claims to have that and more in spades.

However, Neonga claims that the game will be much more approachable than traditional MMOs have been in the past with casual gaming elements like crafting, fishing and gardening. (They had to fit it in somewhere, didn't they?) "Mad Otter has strived to keep 'A Mystical Land' easy to play and understand for players, while layering the deeper gameplay so that players discover it as they become familiar with the game," Mad Otter CEO Damon Slye says.

While the game will be playable on multiple platforms aside from Facebook including mobile devices, players will be able to publish their achievements and find their Facebook friends through Facebook Connect. And although this certainly isn't the first 3D MMO announced for Facebook, it could very well be the first designed specifically around the platform from scratch. Mad Otter is accepting beta test applications right now for next year, so trek on over if you want to journey to A Mystical Land in 2011.

FrontierVille Holiday Mystery Animals adorably appear on the scene

Antlers Penguin     Santa Hat Sugar Glider
While we discovered them last week, the Holiday Mystery Animals in FrontierVille have been MIA until now. Thankfully, Zynga just introduced the three brand new varieties of Mystery Animals: Penguins, Polar Bears and Sugar Gliders (Brandy hit that one right on the nose). Each Mystery Animal Crate will cost 50 Horseshoes, or around $6, and will have a chance of containing one of nine animals:

Pink, White or Yellow Polar Bear
    Black, Blue or White Penguin
Black, Brown or White Sugar Glider

While it appears that you can't buy some of these Mystery Animals individually like before, there are three much more festive Mystery Animals available as reward from Part III of the recently released Winter's a Comin' Goals. They include the Antlers Penguin, Bow Polar Bear and Santa Hat Sugar Glider. Although it's far more work to get to that point repeatedly, at least these special Mystery Animals only cost a few thousand coins. Like the rest of the FrontierVille Christmas Item collection, these cutesy critters will be on the homestead for another 37 days. So, feel free to take your time collecting these, but make sure you have cash leftover to buy your loved ones a little somethin', will ya?

FrontierVille's Snowy Land: Cover your homestead in frosty flakes

Fortunately, Zynga is not referring to the bladed cereal of death that plagues children around the globe. What it does mean, however, is the opportunity to transform your homestead into a winter wonderland thanks to the Snowy Land option in the FrontierVille Market. This new item requires you to either invite 10 new friends or unlock it early with a fat 30 Horseshoes.

Snowy Land includes the option to "Skip" the friend requirement, but we imagine this will lock you out of adding friends to make this item available. If you're going the traditional route, FrontierVille Info recommends you add friends through the option in the Market to make sure they count toward unlocking the item. With the amount of Holiday-themed content that's been added over the past few days, it's only fitting that you do it up in wintry style.

Restaurant City Candy Factory Week feeds the sweet tooth

Been hankering for something sugary since spending all your coins shopping? Well, Playfish might be able to help with through Restaurant City's Candy Factory Week going on right now. This week-long theme brings a slew of sweet decorations, recipes and even a Challenge for us to complete.

Since this is Restaurant City, let's start with the new recipes: Sugar Rush and Snowflake Cake. The former requires three Candy ingredients and one lone Sugar to learn, but mastering it will reward players with the Candy Maker functional item. Only available through Dec. 13, the Candy Maker will net you 1,800 coins every four hours. The latter is a simpler dish, only requiring one Vanilla, Cream and Egg and doesn't reward anything other than being delicious. (Though, it does have a particularly important purpose.)

Check behind the break for a look at the new items, decorations and Challenges in this week's theme.
Restaurant City Candy Week updates
There are several other functional items and decorations to collect like the Super Sweet Drink Dispenser, which serves drinks 18 percent faster than other machines, and the Bubble Gum Stove, an stove that cooks four percent faster and blows bubbles in the process. As for the decorations, everything is included to turn your restaurant into the next Wonka Chocolate Factory from Lollipop Trees to Candy Kings and Candy Pixie Workers that all look awfully inspired by the classic movie.
Restaurant City Challenge Elf Service
The first new Challenge in this week's theme, "Elf Service," involves helping a group of hungry elves who have had all their Snowflake Cake stolen from them. What you need to do is master the Snowflake Cake, feed 100 of these starving present engineers and find out who stole all of the Snowflake Cakes. Head Chef Maggie will be helping you out in the forums daily, so be sure to check back in for clues.
Restaurant City Challenge Present Hunt
Your second mission, titled "Present Hunt!," tasks you with finding 100 presents on Gourmet Street and in your friends' restaurants. After that, you'll have to find out who was up to such as dastardly deed as to slow Santa's mission down, which of course Maggie will available to help out with. Both Challenges should be available by clicking their relevant icons on the home screen, which are an elf and a snow globe, respectively.
Restaurant City Presents
That's quite a lot of content to truck through, so you better get started before it all goes away in preparation for a predictably chillier theme. Find more details on all of the changes and updates this week on the Restaurant City Blog.
